Mutual Fund Net Asset Values

The net asset value of a mutual fund is an important measure of the fund’s value to its shareholders. The net asset value may be viewed as a measure of how much each share of the fund would be worth to its holder if it were being liquidated in an orderly fashion. Thus the net asset value takes the estimated values of all of the fund’s assets, subtracts out all of the fund’s liabilities and divides the netted value by the number of shares.
